🏷️ Discount Calculator
Quick answer
A discount reduces a price by a percentage: discount amount = original price × discount% ÷ 100, and the sale price is the original minus that amount. Two successive discounts do not add up — a 20% discount followed by 10% off the reduced price equals a single 28% discount, because the second percentage applies to a smaller base.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a discount price?
Multiply the original price by the discount percentage and divide by 100 to get the discount amount, then subtract it. Example: 25% off 200 → discount = 50, so you pay 150.
Is 20% off plus an extra 10% off the same as 30% off?
No. The discounts apply one after another: 100 → 80 after 20% off → 72 after another 10% off. That is an effective discount of 28%, not 30%.
How do I find the discount percentage from two prices?
Subtract the sale price from the original price, divide by the original price, and multiply by 100. A drop from 500 to 375 is (125 ÷ 500) × 100 = 25% off.
