#️⃣ Hash Generator

Quick answer

A hash function turns any text into a fixed-length fingerprint: MD5 gives 32 hex characters, SHA-1 gives 40, SHA-256 gives 64 and SHA-512 gives 128. Changing even one character of the input produces a completely different hash, which makes hashes ideal for checksums and integrity checks.

Start typing above and the MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512 hashes will appear here instantly.

How to use the Hash Generator

  1. Type or paste your text into the box — hashes update as you type.
  2. Read the MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512 values in the results.
  3. Tick UPPERCASE if the system you are comparing with uses capital hex.
  4. Click Copy next to any hash to copy exactly that value.

Frequently asked questions

Can a hash be reversed back to the original text?

No. Hash functions are one-way by design. The only way to "crack" a short or common input is to guess it and compare hashes, which is why passwords need slow, salted hashing like bcrypt instead of MD5 or SHA.

Is MD5 still safe to use?

MD5 is fine for checksums and spotting accidental file corruption, but it is broken for security purposes because collisions can be created deliberately. Prefer SHA-256 or SHA-512 for anything security-related.

Why do my hashes differ from another website?

Usually because of character encoding or trailing spaces/newlines. This tool hashes the exact UTF-8 bytes of what you typed, including a trailing newline if you added one.
