Quick answer

A typing speed test measures how many words you type per minute (WPM) and how accurately you type them. WPM here counts every five correct characters as one word, the standard convention. Choose 30, 60 or 120 seconds, type the passage exactly as shown, and watch your live WPM and accuracy update as the character feedback changes colour.

Frequently asked questions

How is typing WPM calculated?

WPM equals the number of correct characters divided by five, divided by the elapsed time in minutes. Dividing by five is the standard way to treat an average word length.

Why can I not paste the passage?

Pasting is disabled because the test is meant to measure real keyboard typing. Copying the text would not measure your speed or accuracy.

What is a good typing speed?

Many adults type around 40 WPM. Speeds of 50–80 WPM are strong for office work, and trained typists can exceed 80 WPM while keeping high accuracy.
